One in five pregnant women suffers from symptoms of major depression. Using yoga to help relieve those symptoms has been practiced for a long time, but until now there has been no study done to determine if yoga actually helped at all. Researchers from the University of Michigan followed women who were 12 to 26 weeks pregnant through a 10-week course of mindfulness yoga. The yoga course focused on support for the changes that women experience as their bodies and emotional states change through pregnancy. Researchers also noted that the women also experienced an enhanced closeness with their child.
