Looking to lose some weight and become more healthy? Rodale Wellness shares seven foods it recommends on its website. They contain lots of what are considered “good” fats. These foods are packed with lots of nutrients, and taste good too! These foods include:
Coconut: Contains medium-chain triglycerides or MCT’s and can be quickly converted into energy by the human body, instead of being stored as fat cells. Coconut can be used as an oil for cooking with medium-heat, used in healthy wraps with lean meant like turkey, or mixed into protein shakes.
Olives: A filling snack that contains monounsaturated fat, and is a great alternative to carbohydrates. Extra-virgin olive oil can also be good for you too.
Grass-fed beef: Differs from beef raised with grain. Grass-fed beef is more nutritious and has more healthy fatty acids such as conjugated linoleic acid. Although more expensive, this meat can be helpful for burning off belly fat.
Avocado: Well known for its nutritional properties, avocados are proven to be healthy and go well in a variety of meals.
Chocolate: Contains oleic acid, which is good for the heart. Choose chocolate that contains at least 85% cacao. Rodale Wellness recommends that the chocolate have five grams or less sugar for each serving, and that it be raw, organic dark chocolate.
Salmon: Not just any salmon, but wild-caught salmon, has lots of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as other healthy nutrients. If you don’t eat fish on a regular basis, Rodale Wellness suggests taking a supplement.
Almond Butter: Contains monounsaturated fat as well as fiber, vitamin E, and magnesium. Choose a brand that has just almonds and not extra sugar.
Eating these foods can help you shed a few pounds and get important nutrients the body needs to be healthy. Want to learn more about foods that have healthy fats?
