Are you trying to lose weight and get healthy but not seeing any results? The problem may be that you bought into what Dr. Mark Hyman calls the “food lies” that many people accept as fact. These contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle and makes it impossible to lose weight.
Food Myth #1
The first myth is that there isn’t a difference between calories, they are all equal. Dr. Hyman notes that, in reality, there are calories that are good for us and those that are bad. These calories don’t just affect our weight, but the entire makeup of our bodies. Calories that come from low-quality foods don’t work.
Instead, we should be eating foods with high-quality calories such as:
- Extra-virgin olive oil
- Coconut butter
- Seeds
- Nuts
- Organic and grass-fed chicken/eggs
- Rich, brightly-colored vegetables and fruits
- Omega-3-rich fish
Food Myth #2
The second myth? We are predestined by our genes to be fat or not.
Actually, there are only 32 genes in the human population related to obesity. What has happened to our genes is that they haven’t quickly enough to keep up with our diets, which now rely on lots of flour and sugar.
Food Myth #3
The third myth is that exercise can solve our weight problems. Hyman points out that exercise is important, but that you can’t exercise enough to burn off all the calories you obtain from an unhealthy diet.
Food Myth #4
Finally, the fourth myth is that all fats make you obese. Dr. Hyman believes that the type and quality of the fats you eat make you healthy or not. Foods that contain fats with medium-chain triglycerides are the best kind of energy your body needs. Those foods with trans-fats are what drag you down.
