If you appreciate quality food and produce, you probably try to buy organic products whenever possible. But when you buy non-organic produce, do you know what helps it grow? More often than not, it’s “biosolids” that are being used for fertilizer. More commonly known as sewage sludge, it is the dried and heated human and industrial waste that comes from the waste flushed down toilets and sinks. When Whole Foods, known for it’s transparency about food, was questioned about the use of this sludge on produce they simply stated they don’t ask farmers what they use and the farmers don’t tell. Knowledge is power; stand up for greater awareness of your food and produce.
