Research continues to support the theory that sleep deprivation can lead to obesity. A recent study at the University of California, Berkeley’s Sleep and Neuroimaging Laboratory, used MRI imaging to investigate the region of the brain responsible for making choices about the amount of food to consume and discovered that it is impacted by a lack of sleep. Blogger Elizabeth Yarnell, commenting on the study says, “Sleep deprivation can lead to poor decisions, undesirable behavior, and can make you fat!” She provides a link to the video of Ariana Huffington’s sleep project which revealed her experience of the effects of sleep deprivation.
