What is Ozone?
Ozone therapy refers to the process of introducing ozone to the bloodstream, skin, or tissue to stimulate the immune system or help treat a disease or wound. Ozone (O₃) is a powerful ménage-a-trois molecule, made up of three oxygen molecules eager to make bonds with other molecules. According to the Journal of Natural Science and Biological Medicine (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3312702/), its effects are proven, consistent, safe, and have minimal side effects. Medical O₃ is used both to disinfect and treat disease. You may be thinking, “why would I put a highly reactive oxygen molecule in my body?” Keep reading to find out what makes this little molecule such a powerful tool for healing.

How does it work?
When given intravenously, rectally, vaginally, or intranasally, ozone will immediately turn back into the more stable double-bonded oxygen molecule, which creates ozonides that inactivate bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast, and protozoa, stimulate oxygen metabolism, and activate the immune system. Clinical studies have looked at the function of antioxidant buffering systems in patients with chronic disease, and they see that oxidative stress is caused by a lack of adequate antioxidant buffering capability, Ozone is a great way to stimulate an increased synthesis of antioxidant buffering enzymes, such a glutathione peroxidase and superamine oxidase, in the body, as well as, the natural cellular cleaning process called autophagy. Autophagy is the process where a sick, old, or poorly functioning cell, such as a cancer cell, undergoes a programmed cell death, which eliminates cells that are not growing properly. Ozone introduces a low level of oxidative stress, which labels unhealthy cells and starts the signaling cascade toward apoptosis. AMPK/mTOR pathways are the “switch” that can modulate metabolic disease, inflammation, and promote longevity, leaving the resilient healthy cells unscathed with more resources to flourish. Due to this cellular cleaning process, patients can occasionally feel a bit lower energy the first day after treatment but then feel a new surge of energy and healthy once the body has had time to “clean house,” so to speak.
