Although everyone agrees you should wear sunscreen, opinions vary on the safety and effectiveness of certain products. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) publishes an annual guide of recommended sunscreens. This year, the EWG took issue with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) new rules, claiming they leave some key safety gaps. EWG claims the FDA is not tough enough on UVA protection and allows super-high SPFs, which have proven to be only marginally more protective. EWG is also concerned about the aerosol particles in spray and powder sunscreens which can be inhaled, and about potentially risky ingredients in sunscreen products.
