Are you finding it hard to get through the daily grind? It turns out that men can utilize mindfulness techniques in order to be more effective in their day-to-day lives and to reduce stress as well.
The first thing that you need to do is to become better aware of your emotions. That may sound like a cliché, but it’s true. Men experience many emotions but struggle to handle them adequately. Often the stereotype for men is to push down those emotions instead of processing them. These emotions are sometimes rooted in events that happened in the past and have yet to move forward from. Instead of pushing those emotions away allow those feelings to come to the surface and face them. This can help you to not let those feelings drag you down unwittingly throughout the day.
Next, find ways to reduce stress associated with your work. Interestingly, stress related to work is the leading cause of stress and anxiety among men. There are several reasons for this:
- Being the sole source of income for the family.
- Wondering if you are secure in your job or income.
- Balancing work and family responsibilities.
Stress can lead to physical symptoms such feeling tired or not being able to control your temper. These only make you less effective as an employee. Yet, if you include mindfulness into your daily life you can reduce your stress load.
Third, it can be hard for men to transition from having a work mindset to parent mindset. This is where meditation can help. Practicing 10 minutes of mediation between the two can help you switch gears and stay present.
Finally, mediation can use meditation and mindfulness to reduce the worry of comparison with other men. It can be tempting to compare your life to your friends or fellow co-workers. Mediation can help you stay attuned to what you find important and not make comparisons.
