Cassie Petro, MS, CN, CNS
Cassie Petro, MS, CN, is a proud Colorado native with a strong belief that integrative medicine and personalized nutrition are essential for achieving optimal health and wellness. As a Certified Nutritionist (CN) in Washington State and a Certified Nutrition Specialist candidate through the American Nutrition Association, Cassie combines her extensive training and passion for holistic health to empower her clients.
Cassie earned her Bachelor of Science in Integrative Health from Metropolitan State University of Denver and completed dual Master of Science degrees in Nutrition and Global Health from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. During her graduate studies, she served as Class President for the Student Government Association and co-led cooking-based nutrition workshops through the Food As Medicine Educator training program. Her capstone projects in Cape Town, South Africa, focused on food sovereignty and addressing racial inequities in health.
Following graduation, Cassie practiced clinical nutrition therapy in Washington, where she fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. However, her desire to make integrative medicine and nutrition therapy more accessible brought her back to her Colorado roots. Cassie is passionate about advancing the availability of holistic healthcare and addressing the disparities she observed between naturopathic medicine in different regions.
When she isn’t working with clients, Cassie enjoys outdoor adventures, gardening, experimenting with recipes in the kitchen, and exploring her creative side through yoga, mobility training, weightlifting, and various crafts. She’s also an avid traveler and backpacker, passionate about experiencing new cultures and cuisines. At home, she cherishes time with her two affectionate Maine Coons, Dallas and Sydney, who often join her on adventures.
As a Certified Nutritionist, Cassie specializes in personalized nutrition therapy tailored to her clients’ unique needs. Her areas of focus include:
- Digestive health
- Hormonal balance
- Metabolic function
- Maternal and child health
- Mental health and stress management
With over a decade of experience in evidence-based medicine, trauma-informed care, medical nutrition therapy, and health equity, Cassie believes true healing comes from an integrative approach that addresses the whole person. She recognizes that food plays a central role in our lives and works to strengthen her clients’ relationships with food, fostering a sense of nourishment and empowerment.
Cassie’s Approach to Nutrition Therapy
Cassie’s method is collaborative, personalized, and guided by evidence-based nutrition science. She helps clients navigate the overwhelming landscape of nutrition information, dismantle diet culture, and develop sustainable habits that promote freedom around food. Cassie focuses on deconstructing food myths, building culinary confidence, and improving overall well-being.
Why Cassie Doesn’t Focus on Weight Loss
Weight loss is not a primary goal in Cassie’s practice, as she prioritizes overall health and sustainable habits. Here’s why:
- Healthy weight loss cannot be guaranteed and is often tied to malnourishment or disordered eating.
- Body changes are natural, and Cassie helps clients embrace body neutrality and deconstruct societal weight stigma.
- Unintended weight gain often signals an underlying imbalance, which Cassie helps identify and address without focusing on the scale.
Cassie’s goal is to guide her clients toward nourishing their bodies and discovering what they need to thrive, both physically and mentally. By focusing on balance and body neutrality, she empowers her clients to achieve lasting wellness and self-confidence.
