Have you been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, or UTI, and are looking for solutions? Even though this is a serious condition there are several things that you can do to treat a UTI at home.
UTI’s occur when bacteria are introduced into your urinary tract and cause an infection. Causes for the bacteria include:
- Introduced while having sex.
- Kidney Stones, which create a blockage of your urinary track allowing bacteria to build up.
- If you have diabetes or a weak immune system.
- Being treated with chemotherapy.
- Have a catheter.
- After having used the restroom.
If you have a UTI you will have an urge to urinate more often. There will also be a pain in the urethra and bladder, as well as pain when urinating. Your urine may change, including how it smells and looks. Blood in the urine is another symptom.
How to Treat a UTI
To treat a UTI, first, make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Water helps to move the bacteria out of your system. Consult with your medical practitioner for how much is right for you. Since you will be drinking more water make sure that urinate and don’t try to hold it. Even though it may be painful, urinating helps you to get rid of the bacteria.
For pain relief, consider using a heating pad to the affected area. Note that the heat should not be applied directly to your skin. Nor should you apply too much heat. Apply the pad for brief periods.
You can also treat UTI’s by wearing loose clothing. This is because if you are wearing tight-fitting clothing around the affected area moisture can build up. Moisture helps bacteria to grow.
Don’t forget your diet. Avoid eating foods that are hot/spicy, are carbonated, and contain alcohol or caffeine. Instead, eat plenty of foods with fiber as well as vitamin C. There is no conclusive research that shows cranberry juice has any impact on UTI’s.
