If you’re living a stressed-out, on-the-go lifestyle, your body knows it. Soon the caffeine, unhealthy food, and sleep deprivation you’re using to stay on top of things will show up in really uncomfortable ways.
Let’s look at your adrenal glands. Adrenal glands are the body’s initial defenders against stress.
They secrete different hormones that regulate body functions. When the adrenal glands are called on too often, they may struggle to regulate properly. This is called adrenal fatigue.
Symptoms of adrenal fatigue are:
- body aches
- lack of focus
- moodiness
- extreme food cravings
- overwhelm
The good news is that adrenal fatigue is totally reversible with a few lifestyle tweaks. Read on for the four steps that will help you heal your adrenal glands and regain control of your health:
- Eliminate food triggers
It is entirely possible to use food to heal, but first you must remove the foods from your diet that are doing damage. Processed foods, preservatives, chemicals, etc,. are hard to digest. Try to avoid sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial sweeteners. These products are considered toxic to the adrenal system and extremely inflammatory. Limit caffeine so as not to interrupt your sleep cycle. Your adrenals need time to recover.
- Add in superfoods
Once you gotten rid of the foods that are compromising your adrenal glands, incorporate foods that will help them recover. Food like almonds, avocados, flaxseed, and blueberries are excellent for healing the adrenals.
- Supplement
Where there are nutrient gaps, it’s a good idea to supplement for the benefit of healing your adrenal glands. Try herbs like ashwagandha, holy basil, and magnesium to help regulate blood sugar, energy production, and lower cortisol.
- Rest and reduce stress
Try to do something fun or relaxing daily. Maybe you like to read, exercise, or visit with friends. Your body needs time to heal itself and relieve itself of negativity. If you need help with stress relief, do consider time with a professional before things get out of hand.
